How clear aligners move teeth
Each aligner is shaped slightly differently from the one before. Worn over the teeth, it applies light, steady pressure that moves them a fraction of a millimetre at a time. You change to the next set every one to two weeks, following a sequence planned before the first tray is made.
The trays are the visible part; the planning is what decides the result. We start with a digital intraoral scan and 3D records, then map which teeth move, in what order and by how much. Small tooth-coloured attachments are bonded to some teeth when a movement needs extra grip. Without this planning and regular in-person checks, aligners are a guess, which is why we do not offer unsupervised or mail-order treatment.
Who clear aligners suit
Aligners work well when the teeth need moderate, well-defined movement. They are usually a good fit for:
- Crowded or overlapping front teeth
- Gaps and spacing between teeth
- Teeth that have drifted since earlier braces
- Mild bite problems that the plan can correct with tooth movement alone
- Adults who need treatment to stay discreet at work
They are less predictable for large bite discrepancies, severely rotated teeth, or problems that come from jaw position rather than tooth position. Children who still have a mix of baby and adult teeth usually need a different approach. Results also depend on wearing the trays about 22 hours a day; if that is not realistic for you, fixed braces are the more dependable option.

Clear aligners or braces?
Both move teeth; they differ in what they can correct and how they fit into daily life. Aligners are nearly invisible, come out for meals and brushing, and need fewer clinic visits. Braces handle a wider range of corrections and do not rely on you remembering to wear them. Invisalign or another aligner system?
We work with several aligner systems: Invisalign®, Spark, Smile Aligners, SmileSync and Dentcare. They differ in price, planning software and the range of movements they handle well, so Dr. Shiva recommends a system after seeing your scan rather than starting from a brand. What changes the cost

What treatment involves
- Consultation and scan: we examine your teeth, gums and bite, take a digital scan, and talk through what you want to change. Any decay or gum problems are treated first.
- Treatment plan: Dr. Shiva plans each movement and you receive the plan and written fee before deciding.
- Fitting: your first trays are fitted, attachments placed if the plan needs them, and you learn how to wear and clean them.
- Progress checks: we review your progress every six to eight weeks and adjust the plan if a tooth is lagging.
- Retention: once teeth reach position, retainers keep them there.
Living with aligners
Wear the trays about 22 hours a day and take them out only to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush. Keep them in their case when they are out; most lost aligners are wrapped in a napkin. Rinse them each time, clean them gently with cool water, and avoid hot water, which can warp the plastic. Each new set feels tight for a day or two; that pressure means the teeth are moving.
